DR. RICK REED APPOINTED PRESIDENT OF HERITAGE COLLEGE & SEMINARY
CAMBRIDGE, ON, October 9, 2012 - The Board of Directors of Heritage College & Seminary has announced the appointment of Dr. Rick Reed as President, effective January 1, 2013.
Mike Nichols, Board Chair, said to staff and faculty today, “It is with much gratitude to God that after conducting an extensive search Dr. Rick Reed has accepted the Board’s offer to be the new President of Heritage College & Seminary. The Board has found Dr. Reed to be engaging, articulate, intelligent and most importantly passionate about Heritage’s mission to glorify God by training and equipping men and women for life and ministry. We are very excited to have Dr. Reed come lead Heritage into its future.”
Heritage’s Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Barker, shared with Heritage students in Chapel today, “Rick Reed, with his Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary and Doctor of Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, along with his rich pastoral experience and international teaching experiences brings together a wonderful blend of academy, church and missions. He will certainly enrich all that we are and do at Heritage College & Seminary both inside and outside the classroom, and will drive forward our commitment to educating pastors, missionaries and workers for the church and parachurch ministries.”
Similar sentiments were expressed by Bob Flemming, Central Region of Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches of Canada, Regional Director, “We are thrilled to have Dr. Reed serve as the new Heritage President. The pastoral leadership experience he brings with him will certainly assist us at FEB Central to advance leadership training throughout the region.”
The acceptance of this position fulfills a life time calling as Dr. Reed said recently, “When I graduated from seminary, we hoped to head to Brazil where I would teach in a seminary. God had other plans, leading us to pastor in the States and then at the Metropolitan Bible Church in Ottawa. In recent years, I’ve sensed a growing desire to invest in training men and women for ministry in Canada and beyond. Both Linda and I are excited at the invitation I’ve been given to serve as President of Heritage College & Seminary.”
Dr. Reed joined the Metropolitan Bible Church pastoral team as the Senior Pastor in 1998. John Gowling, in a letter on behalf of The MET Church Board wrote, “The MET has been blessed these past fourteen years with Rick’s elegant handling of God’s Word.” He went on to say, “We see this servant, already captured by the love of Christ, responding to God’s call to take on a significant and strategic position at Heritage College & Seminary. We must praise God with Rick and Linda for His leading and their response.”
Bill Fietje, President of the Associated Gospel of Churches, goes on to say, “Rick Reed joined the Associated Gospel Churches to take up the challenge to lead the Metropolitan Bible Church. Under his leadership, exceptional expositional preaching and godly life, The MET has continued to grow to become one of Canada’s most influential churches. His deep commitment to the authority and transformational power of the scriptures coupled with his inspirational skill in training future pastors and leaders will help propel Heritage to an even brighter future for the glory of God. I look forward to working closely with President Rick Reed in the years ahead.”
Prior to joining The MET, Dr. Reed was the Senior Pastor of Berean Bible Fellowship in Atascadero, Californian and the College Pastor at Valley Church in Cupertino, California. He is a long-time, regular contributor to a weekly “Ask the Religion Experts” column in the Ottawa Citizen, has been a guest professor at the Nassa Theological College, Mwanza, Tanzania and an adjunct professor at Heritage Seminary. Dr. Reed also holds a BA from Biola University.
